The following are examples of what it’s like to use StoryCall to communicate with your grandma.

1. Setup
1.A. Successful setup ↑
To begin, tell us the phone number we should call with your messages.
Tap the attachment button in the bottom left corner of your text app. Make a new voice recording of that phone number and send it to us.
Great — we’ll call 415-555-1234 with your future messages. If that’s not correct, send another audio message with the right number.
From now on, whenever you send an audio message to StoryCall, we’ll call 415-555-1234 and play your recording. We’ll send you any reply as a text in this same thread.
You can text HELP or STOP anytime. You can also text the StoryCall Admin directly here (plain text).
1.B. Phone number sent as text ↑
To begin, tell us the phone number we should call with your messages.
Tap the attachment button in the bottom left corner of your text app. Make a new voice recording of that phone number and send it to us.
We got the phone number (415-555-1234) — but StoryCall works by sending audio, not text-to-speech.
As a quick practice, please send that phone number again as an audio attachment (a voice recording). If you need help with this step, text HELP.
1.C. Phone number audio is unclear / incomplete ↑
I couldn’t confidently pick out a full phone number from that recording.
Please send the phone number again as an audio recording, saying each digit slowly (example: “four one five…”).
Tip: record in a quiet place. If you prefer, you can say it twice in one recording.
1.D. Change the call-to number ↑
Updated — we’ll call 650-555-1234 with your future messages.
Next step: send an audio message for me to deliver.
2. Message exchange
2.A. Audio question + audio reply ↑
You have a new message.
Hey grandma – what music was popular when you were in high school?
Please reply after the beep or tell me to call back and play your message another time.
2.B. Reschedule: call back in about an hour ↑
2.C. You send text instead of audio ↑
I got your message — but StoryCall delivers voice recordings, not text-to-speech.
Please send that again as an audio attachment (a voice recording). I’ll call it through.
StoryCall: Thanks. I'll delivered this and your future audio recordings.
2.D. No answer / voicemail / retry ↑
StoryCall: I could not reach Grandma and will try again in an hour.
3. Texting for help
3.A. HELP: what to do next (setup) ↑
Here’s what to do:
1) Text us the phone number we should call as a voice recordings.
2) After we confirm the number, we'll deliver any future recordings you enter.
To change the call-to number later, just send a new phone number as audio.
3.B. HELP: how to attach a voice recording ↑
No problem. In your texting app:
- Tap the + or attachment button near the message box.
- Choose Audio / Voice / Record.
- Record your message (or the phone number), then tap Send.
Tip: avoid speech-to-text dictation — we need an actual audio recording.
3.C. HELP: change the number ↑
To change the call-to number, send the new phone number as an audio recording.
After I confirm it, I’ll use that new number for your future messages.
4. Texting to stop
4.A. STOP: opt out ↑
You’re opted out. StoryCall will not send any calls from this thread.
If you change your mind, text storycall to start again.
4.B. Restart after STOP ↑
Welcome back. If you haven’t set a call-to number yet, send it now as an audio recording.
Otherwise, send your next message as audio and I’ll call it through.
